ATHLETES VILLAGE STRATFORD
The 2012 Olympic Games in London not only constitute one of the largest sporting events of the decade, but also what is currently the largest construction project in the British Isles, which are suffering badly from the economic crisis. After 1908 and 1948, the games are to be held in the British capital for the third time and in the district of Stratford, which is located some six kilometres east of the city centre, an Olympic Park is being created on the banks of the River Lea. The 200-hectare site was previously home to a number of industrial companies and what is now a disused railway freight station.
Athletes Village, Plot N07
GIG put in a tender for the Athletes Village, Plot N07 a year ago, but then the project was postponed. Nonetheless, even during the quotation phase, we somehow felt touched by the Olympic spirit, as the receipt of a nomination alone was confirmation of the company’s excellent reputation and GIG PROJECT’s experience in the field of large and complex residential projects. A reputation further enhanced in recent years by the St Davids II and Crossharbour projects in Cardiff and London respectively.
Plot N07 consists of seven buildings with 320 apartments, which will initially house the Olympic and Paraolympic athletes before being converted into housing for the local population.
GIG PROJECT is to supply 1.800 window elements, shop fronts, winter gardens, partitions and canopies.
