Stadtlagerhaus Hamburg

Genuine quality of life on the Elbe.

The conversion of the “Stadtlagerhaus” on Große Elbstrasse 27 marked the start of the conversion of the disused docklands to the west of the fish market into an inner city area. The construction work, which was administered by the British-Hanseatic architectural office, Alsop & Störmer, was completed in 2001.

A 2-storey glass cube has been inserted between the two buildings and the base of the warehouse houses a restaurant with large riverbank terrace. The five floors above are used as studios.

The four-floor addition with 28 top apartments, which from the outside would seem to consist entirely of a frameless glass lamella system, sits firmly on the ledges of the old, red walls of the warehouse.
