Klubhaus St. Pauli, Hamburg
Media façade for Klubhaus St. Pauli, Hamburg
The media façade of the newly constructed Klubhaus St. Pauli is truly unique and is set to captivate millions of Reeperbahn visitors annually. This mixed-use building houses live music clubs, music industry companies, a radio station, and a small theatre.
The façade is composed of individual metal elements coated in gold and shifted in depth. Its intricate design allows for outward views, creating a pleasant atmosphere inside during the day.
To spectacularly bring the façade to life at night, our client Multivision developed and produced several integrated systems. Invisible lights with special lenses for precise light direction illuminate the individually addressable elements, while pixel lines transform the façade into a massive screen for light and video installations. They are used for displaying club announcements, Twitter messages, or advertisements. Over 1,650 pixel lines were installed using 11 different types of lighting fixtures. The LED boards are angled downward for optimal visibility from Spielbudenplatz. A black sealing layer protects the electronics from weather conditions, enhancing contrast and providing an elegant appearance.
This spectacular 700 m² media façade in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district was inaugurated in September 2015 with a grand Sound & Light Show, marking the start of the 10th Reeperbahn Festival. Thousands gathered at Spielbudenplatz to witness this extraordinary event.
