Glass balustrade with flood protection
The simultaneous purpose of the glass balustrade as flood protection required considering high impact loads for the structural design. The glasses were glued into a stainless steel structure, which was subsequently anchored with concrete.
For the structural verification, a test setup and procedure were defined by the specialist planner: A section of the balustrade was installed at our facade test stand for a leakage test. After 1 week of continuous loading, the tightness of the construction was proven.
Another challenge was the assembly due to highly constrained space conditions. The elements had to be sealed on-site from the water side below the railing. With the help of a special scaffold, which could be moved longitudinally along the balustrade on wheels, we were able to elegantly solve this challenge as well
