Surveying the atrium glass construction

Bespoke structures such as cable wall façades require special attention and must be regularly monitored throughout their service life. This ensures that any irregularities can be identified and addressed before they develop into major issues.

At the client’s request, we conducted a survey to measure the tension forces within the wire frame of the atrium glass structure. The aim was to compare current tension values with those recorded during previous surveys.

Access to the wire structure was provided via double doors at the rear of the building. Due to space limitations, a spider lift was used to reach the necessary height. Our Structural Engineers performed the measurements using a specialized tension measurement device. Precise readings were taken on both the horizontal and vertical tension wires.

To ensure consistency and accuracy, all measurements were taken at the same locations as in earlier surveys. This allowed for a reliable comparison and mapping of tension changes over time.

The work was completed over a weekend to prevent disruption to daily office operations. Protective floor coverings were used throughout to avoid any damage.

We delivered a comprehensive final report featuring graphical illustrations of tension changes. Historical data dating back to the original construction of the structure was also included, providing a complete overview of wire tension development across the years.
