Campus Krems Expansion: A Hub for Innovation and Exchange

The expansion of Campus Krems is a forward-looking construction project that brings together IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Danube University Krems (University for Continuing Education), and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences under one roof. At the heart of the architectural concept are four compact building volumes connected by a shared ground floor. Particular emphasis was placed on a highly functional building envelope, whose technical components are optimally coordinated.

The façade combines several systems: window and door elements are integrated with a mullion-and-transom façade in the learning areas and the auditorium, ensuring maximum daylight penetration. The closed sections are clad in a high-quality metal façade made of rear-ventilated aluminum panels. The structure is complemented by an external, sensor-controlled sun-shading system that provides efficient shading and actively regulates the indoor climate.

All individual components integrate seamlessly into the overall structure and make a significant contribution to the building’s high energy efficiency. Inside, warm natural materials such as light-colored wooden slats ensure good acoustics and create a pleasant atmosphere. With approximately 18,000 m² of usable space, the campus offers optimal conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration, featuring 23 state-of-the-art laboratories, 140 offices, and 14 seminar rooms.
