Exclusive GIG façades for buildings on Hanover Square
Located directly on Hanover Square, this is now the second building to receive a façade by GIG. LDS Architects have been planning this project for several years, which places high demands on construction and materials. A wide range of materials was used in this building, including specially tinted black stainless steel sheets, bronze, various brick and stone cladding, and wood.
GIG was commissioned for the manufacturing, delivery, and installation of various constructions including punched windows, unitized curtain walls, plant room enclosures made of sandwich panels, skylights, glass balustrades, and louvre walls.
Crossrail, the underground railway operator, was also involved as a new underground station was built beneath the building, necessitating a 6 m x 6 m ventilation shaft through the entire building. This was integrated into the building with a louvered cladding made of aluminium and black anodized sheets.
Several of these façade types were sampled and tested, including precast concrete elements from England, which were installed in our test boxes to precisely replicate the wall construction.

Stainless Steel Mirror Sheets
“Black mirror stainless steel” represents an exceptionally refined surface treatment for stainless steel within the field of facade construction. To achieve this distinct appearance, stainless steel mirror sheets are dyed using a chemical process. Even the slightest variations in material composition and the dyeing bath result in a diverse appearance of the facade sheets, which are visible to the naked eye but are scarcely measurable using colorimeters due to their reflective surface.
Moreover, the extremely delicate nature of the material necessitated special care during both manufacturing and installation processes, as fingerprints or minor scratches are scarcely reparable.
Display cases
As part of the work on the Hanover Square NBS project, sales display cases were manufactured by GIG in the so-called “Medici Court”.
The special architecture of these display cases with curved ends, as well as various features made from patinated brass sheets, required very special craftsmanship. GIG’s manufacturing was able to perfectly master this challenge; due to the layout of the “Medici Court”, each display case had to be executed as a unique piece.
